COFFEE AND TRAVEL

Of course, we love coffee, right? But I think it’s actually all about time and places that fascinate us so much: the action of having a nice time with a good coffee where we feel comfortable. Over the past year, there have been so many great cafes and coffee stands newly opened, so let us introduce them first of all.

Coffee connects people and the locations. Wherever we are, an encounter with a cozy coffee shop makes us feel at home, and that is a reason why we appreciate a cup of coffee when we travel somewhere new. The last half of the edition is a travel guide. I know we are all fancy travelling now, so why don’t you have a coffee and make a plan of where you’re going to visit next?

For example, the sweet Chicano Soul from Scandinavian musicians, the South London music scene including black midi, street sounds from NYC, and of course Japanese artists and anime songs, which actually have adopted many genres such as city pops and jazz, have been familiar with us for generations.

SUMMER CLASSICS

It’s time to look for your shades whilst you wait for the traffic lights to change. It’s also time to squeeze lemon on the almond jelly and wonder if we should get either a madras checked classic short sleeve shirt or rather a more playful patterned one. When not wearing a shirt, a white T-shirt and plain denim pants are the order of the day. Dressing up nicely to go on a date to the baseball game. Otherwise, travel to a summer-resort to escape the dead heat of the city and spend a relaxing time at a vintage hotel.

ENJOY COOKING
I love eating, but I’m hopeless at cooking. Having said that, I have the common decency to order a bottle of wine and be casual in somewhere like a cool, brand-new restaurant in my neighborhood. But every time I do, I somehow feel a little awkward as I’ve never cooked anything in my life, not even a simple thing like boiling macaroni in a pan.
So, this coming summer, I’m determined to have a go at cooking and have a something that I can say is my specialty. Something very basic, like putting some vegetable between slices of bread. Starting small is my motto.

Although Tokyo is well known as a city where you can literally get anything, it is also there for the daily lives of its citizens. Those stores are not necessarily fancy and famous, but they are very necessary as they are a part of the daily lives of the ordinary people. We find having these kinds of places is a little piece of happiness, which tends to go unnoticed.
As you know, it’s not a perfect time for sight-seeing, so why don’t you change your perspective and try to explore the city from the perspective of the common people who work, study and live in Tokyo. This issue is all about Tokyo, but we believe you can apply this approach to your own life, you may find something new in things you’d never considered, or things that might have been hidden by prejudices.
