Fall 2024 issue considers the duality of travel as a source of challenge and comfort. There’s the challenge of distance—a castaway island in Indonesia reachable only by seaplane—and of the nerves: a whitewater ride through the Grand Canyon, Siena’s heart-stopping Palio race. Challenges can be transformative, as in sailing Italy’s Pontine islands on an all-women’s culinary retreat, or a deep-dive into the traditional textile culture of rural Vietnam. But the comfort of the calm and familiar always calls: a crisp fall day in Stockholm with the air scented of cardamom buns, a serene monastery-hotel in Nice, a beloved rental home in Maine.

Summer 2024 is our Spain issue, exploring the country from the rugged Atlantic coast of Galicia to the sun-splashed beaches of the Costa Brava, and everything in between. Including a rare inside glimpse of a 500-year-old horse festival in the mountains of Andalucía, the eternal chicness of the Marbella Club, traditional tapas in the narrow streets of Cádiz, and the forces that have shaped Ibiza over centuries into a magnet for seekers and creatives. Plus: our edit of the best places to stay across Spain.

We’re calling our Spring 2023 issue The Cure, devoted to all things wellness. We’re plunging into the healing power of water, from Japan’s hot springs to Budapest’s bath houses, and exploring the hills of Bhutan and jungles of Bali for a health boost. Bonus: don’t miss our global list of our favorite spa retreats and clinics, from Arizona to Zanzibar.

For Fall 2022, we broaden our global lens, exploring the raw beauty of coastal landscapes from the Azores to the Norwegian Arctic, and road-tripping through regions as varied as the Mexican Yucatán, the Balkans, and Puglia in the off-season. 

In our Spring 2022 issue we take you to many corners of the world…from Kashmir to Kenya, and Japan to Northern New Mexico, with lots in between like Ghana, Sicily, Transylvania, Block Island, Jamaica, Ibiza, and more. Plus planning a multi-generational trip for 12 people that ended up being sheer magic for the whole family!

Given that we've finally been able to travel this summer, our fall issue of Yolo Journal celebrates some of the new places we're excited about, like laid-back Menorca, which got a very exciting addition this summer--the Hauser & Wirth gallery designed by Luis Laplace, who shared his favorite spots on this island he's been coming to for years. We also went to the Castello di Reschio in Umbria, a deeply soulful family project that also happens to be a hotel, and to Oaxaca, where we met the best fixer/concierge/guide who introduced us to the best people and places. We've also got Malta, a Balkan road trip, the South Caicos (a sleepy Caribbean island resort we'd never heard of until our contributor Adrian Gaut shared it with us), and lots more.

The summer edition of Yolo Journal is all things Greece! We asked all of our favorite Greeks and Greece lovers to share their secret islands, hotels, villa rentals, and food! And while many of us won't be traveling to Greece this summer, we think of this as the ultimate dreaming and planning tool, for your next trip.
