Study

The eighth issue of Study delves into the archives of casting director Dominique Vinant, whose career was transformative within the fashion industry. Vinant began working in the late 90s for avant-garde Parisian designers such as Ann Demeulemeester, Martin Margiela, Martine Sitbon, or Yohji Yamamoto, playing a pivotal role in redefining traditional beauty standards. Study N°7

Study

Living in New York City is an experience that transcends the ordinary. The rhythm of life is a cacophony of ambition, culture, and relentless energy. It's a place where dreams are chased and where the cityscape itself feels like a living organism, constantly evolving and pulsating with the lives of millions.

For this issue of STUDY, our 7th, we asked photographer Adrian Gaut and creative partner Akari Endo-Gaut to document the spaces of various New Yorkers. Adrian Gaut is an American photographer based in New York, his architectural photographs and travel reports are regularly published by international publications such as Condé Nast Traveler, New York Times, Vogue or Architectural Digest. For this long portfolio of over 100 pages he photographed spaces as they were, no styling, no artificial lighting. Just homes beautifully put together by their owners.

Study N°5

Study

The fifth volume of Study is dedicated to the work of fashion editor Camille Bidault-Waddington. The task of a stylist is to reflect with clothing the cultural changes in our society, to use the pages of fashion magazines to comment on our times, not only to document sartorial evolutions.

Camille Bidault-Waddington has for over two decades collaborated with the world's leading photographers to create images that push the boundaries of what a fashion photograph can achieve. Her unique vision - with the model as an extension of herself, the photograph as a world to inhabit and clothing as an instinctive interpretation of inner thoughts - is seeked after by the leading fashion magazines of our times.

For this volume we revisited her body of work and edited thousands of fashion images down to under a hundred to create a portfolio that is as much a fashion story as it is the documentation of an artistic personal practice. Authors Natasha Stagg and Wilson Oryema's contributions inspired by these images are a testament to the power of a fashion photograph's capacities to create a world within one frame.

The issue also includes a fashion insert photographed by Angelo Pennetta and styled by Camille Bidault-Waddington with model Kiki Willems.

Study N°4

Study

The fourth volume of Study is dedicated to the eye-catching photographs of Gösta Peterson.

Editor-in-Chief Christopher Niquet first encountered the work of Gösta Peterson at his daughter's gallery in New York City and has since been looking for ways to share his images with a larger audience of fashion and photography lovers.

Gösta "Gus" Peterson, (April 25, 1923– July 28, 2017) was a Swedish-American photographer whose images were widely published in the editorial pages of Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle and The New York Times amongst many others.

In the 1960s, Bea Feitler the former Art Director for Harper’s Bazaar, Ms and Rolling Stone said, "The most interesting fashion pages now – the ones that say the most about our times – are Gösta Peterson’s for Mademoiselle." Photographer Duane Michels called him, “underrated.”

Gösta moved to New York in 1948 "with poor English," by his own account, "but enough to find every jazz club in town.” He got a job as an illustrator at the department store Lord & Taylor but found himself becoming restless "hanging over a drafting table" all day. When he left Sweden, he was given a Rolleiflex camera and he honed his skills as a photographer practicing in the streets of New York photographing his friends, family and himself.

From the 1950s to the mid-1980s, Peterson’s work was featured on the cover and in the pages of the best magazines of his time and shot some of the most influential designers of the late 20th century including Comme des Garçons, Rudi Gernreich, Halston, Ralph Lauren and Yves Saint Laurent.

The issue also includes a fashion insert photographed by Marie Deteneuille and styled by Sarah de Mavaleix with model Malgosia Bela.

Contributors : Avril Bénard, Marie Deteneuille, Sarah de Mavaleix.

Study N°3

Study

The third volume of Study is dedicated to French photographer Romain Laprade’s photographs of Dakar.

Editor-in-Chief Christopher Niquet has for years admired Romain Laprade’s composed yet spontaneous images. After unfruitful months spent developing a book project together around a specific Dakar building, they decided to explore the Senegalese capital for a volume of Study.

In May 2022, Romain Laprade flew to Dakar and spent days walking around the city documenting its architecture. The resulting images are a silent homage to a place filled with architectural wonders. Whether it be the facades of institutional building or of private homes, Laprade captured the eclectic beauty of this West African metropolis.

The issue also includes a fashion insert photographed by Julien Martinez Leclerc and styled by Charlotte Collet with models from the Senegalese diaspora in Paris.

Contributors : Charlotte Collet, Julien Martinez Leclerc, Zoe Ruffner.

Art Direction : Petronio Associates

Content : 136 pages of color and black and white photographs, protective packaging.
