Racquet is a new quarterly magazine that celebrates the art, ideas, style and culture that surround tennis. We fondly remember the swashbuckling sport of the tennis boom of the 1970s and ’80s, and we’re working to restore some of that swagger to today’s game. We work with some of the best writers – those experienced in the tennis conversation, and those who’ve never covered the sport – as well as celebrated artists and photographers to explore the modern tennis landscape, bringing you something beautiful and meaningful four times a year.

Racquet Issue 15
On our cover is a new painting by Honor Titus, accompanied by a profile from the vital and current cultural voice of Durga Chew-Bose. Racquet Hall of Famer Benoit Paire makes the case for player as entertainer, Brittani Sonnenberg is against mindfulness, and Albert Costa of the Spanish sports management company Kosmos, calls for unity. Gerry Marzorati has stern words for a tour determined to do business in an anti-democracy powerhouse, and to top it all off, we present an excerpt from Steven Blush’s new WTT nostalgia-fest, Bustin’ Balls.

Racquet N°The Book
Racquet: The Book
When the popularity of tennis peaked in the late ’70s and early ’80s, the sport was populated by buccaneering talents with outsize personas, such as Borg, Evert, McEnroe, Navratilova, Gerulaitis, Austin, King, and Connors. The game was played in every park, and tennis clothes became appropriate attire for cocktails as well as for a match. With success, however, came polish, and tennis–if not the game itself, then how it came to be represented in the culture–got boring. Having a big personality was no longer a virtue. Tennis went back to being a bastion of the elite.
The best writing from the first three years of Racquet magazine.

Racquet Issue 13
The photography issue features work by longtime collaborators, as well as some new ones. In it, Fashion and Style Director Radka Leitmeritz goes to Vegas to capture desert style and links up with tennis guru Gil Reyes. And we highlight Gorilla vs. Bear’s David Bartholow, who has been documenting the tour in Polaroid. We’re also pleased to present Stefanos Tsitsipas’ first published collection of photography, and Joel Drucker and Louisa Thomas commemorate their favorite tennis photographs, all behind a striking cover of Daniil Medvedev by Sam Hellmann.
