Occasion — (French) ‘’owned or used in the past by someone else’’
Why do we say objet d’occasion when we mean second-hand?
A second-hand object is first and foremost an opportunity, an occasion. Second-hand objects do not correspond to fixed criteria, they are not chosen like a microwave in a department store. A second-hand object is something you meet. You let yourself be surprised, open to chance — or already with an idea in mind, to which the object you find rarely corresponds.
Revue Occasion is a magazine that offers a starting point for creative ideas and reflections on second-hand goods.
In short, an occasion to create, together.
Second-hand, whether seen as a social phenomenon, a practice or a different way of relating to objects, seems to inspire artists and theorists alike.
