Naïfs Magazine

Revising the definition of a luxury magazine, we inject a de- centralized ideal of beauty, culture, and glamour. Highlighting the unique facets of previously colonized — and under-represented — styles, we assign credit where credit is due. Showcasing unique artists and key players in the fashion, pop culture, art, and music communities for their best significant roles in social change, we rectify misnomers in modern history and open the lens from which high-end viewers can see a more holistic and global picture.

Naïfs Magazine N°1-2

Naïfs Magazine

What Are You Fighting For? is a call to resilience, perseverance, and boldness. This issue reflects an eclectic vision, full of passion and sincerity. We imagined two very distinct covers. One cover in Kawasaki, Japan, to meet the coolest female band of the moment immortalized by Tokyo-based photographer Shina Peng. Through “Chai, A New Dawn for Japan,” the group talks about liberating themselves from the repressive attitudes of the society of their country of origin through a reductive notion that is the term “Kawaii.” For the second piece, Sam Mangwana, like a jazzman, is effortlessly posing in front of the lens of Ghanaian photographer Henry Boadu. The musician evokes the social and political dimension of the construction of the Congolese rumba in this intimate portrait entitled “Mangwana is Worth Van Gogh.”

The magazine features extended interviews of the Belgian fashion designer, often called the First Lady of Antwerp fashion, Linda Loppa. She has contributed significantly to making Antwerp a fashion city. It will also contain extended interviews of Federico Marchetti, ex-CEO of Yoox-Net-à-Porter, and a tribute to the African stylist, founder, and artistic director of Nikkou Magazine, Louis Phillippe de Gagoue, who recently left us. But, also the African advocate of African brands, Anna Touré, a design collective based in Paris, Hall Haus, among others. It will also be punctuated by several series of photos in the Netherlands, Taiwan, Ivory Coast, etc.

Naïfs: Conversations in Fashion Decolonization compiles a more inclusive history of fashion, inspired by global narratives: to situate, understand, and integrate positive growth and perspective into this ever-changing industry. The impact of fashion on social movements and its converse reflection is apparent from its very origins. We discuss how fashion influences pop culture, music, art, and lifestyle: and how these aspects, in turn, affect "la mode."
