This is a double first for our magazine. Normally, we publish our special issue in the summer but this is our first winter special issue and it is also our first issue dedicated solely to one record label. Since it launched 10 years ago,
Ed Banger has breathed new life into a music scene that, some say, was becoming stagnant. Ed Banger has changed the face of electronic music. In the past, electronic music had a tendency to be all too inward looking almost to the point that it had become fossilised, but it has found new momentum thanks to its new standard bearers Pedro Winter and his artists.
Of course, they are not the only ones, but the Ed Banger “family”, with its hip-hop (Mehdi, Mr Flash, DSL) and pop influences (yes, Justice is pop), have acted as a catalyst. Even the label’s distinct use of graphic design
now has a sphere of influence that goes way beyond music. The label crosses boarders (a reason why this special issue is bilingual) ; it has no taboos and is non-judgemental. Thus, Ed Banger brings people together whilst others divide them.
Ed Banger is not the music of a generation, it is the music of all those who recognise themselves in the timeless sentiment, “Peace, Love, Unity and Having Fun.” Meaning you, me, and us.
